in da club

God, I really wanted to dislike 50 Cent, and I kind of still do. I remember from back in the day when he did that so-so novelty record 'How To Rob...' with the Madd Rapper (shittest novelty rapper ever, arguably), and while it was medium cool for someone to start their career by offering *everyone* in hip-hop outside, by name, like all novelty records it got old pretty quick. Anyway, point being, 50 Cent can't actually rap, like, at all well. God only knows what Eminem sees in him, but...

BUT. 'In Da Club' is stupidly good. Literally. It's custom-made to do exactly what it says on the tin, ie it's a club track, a banger, possibly the ultimate club banger. It sounds totally familiar and a bit like a lot of other club tracks - but that's cos it's one of those songs that just sounds like somebody somewhere should have thought of it already. It doesn't matter at all what he's saying in the verses, it's not that sort of hip-hop record. It's all about the "bamp-bamp!" bit in the beat, and the stupid-grin-inducing chorus.

"I'm into having sex, not making love", indeed. ODB would be proud.

hey Tony - ah, made you look

So much to say about the weekend just gone, and I'm feeling a little guilty about the fact that the March was just the icing on the cake rather than the centrepiece. But then again, I also don't know where to start in talking about the importance of Saturday's events... The potential for real change in the political climate of the UK is huge, but I'm scared of massive disappointment (again). I also want to talk about my own slight discomfort with some of the more hippie-ish vibes at the demo, and why I think I need to simultaneously suppress this discomfort and ruminate on it further. And I want to talk about the backlash from the so-called "Sensible Left", and why Christopher Hitchens has finally crossed a line he can never return from in terms of gross distortion of the truth and rank hypocrisy. But this will have to wait, because yet again my net-cafe-meter is running low..

And I need to talk about how much Friday night rocked, too.

Tune of the weekend: Ms Jade - 'She's Gangsta'.
