Yesterday, I was about to buy the Observer when I had a revelation, and said to Nina:

"I really shouldn't - their 'Best Of 2003' features will only make me angry."

I was not wrong. Enf of year lists that appear in publications such as this are always somewhat cringe-inducing: but I think the presence of American Life makes this one extra special and twatty.
