cataloguing beauty, fighting crime

In those moments of self-doubt, life feels like a messy pile of unfinished projects, unkept promises, unsent emails, unfulfilled potential. Gathering dust.

But fuck that, with a stick and a bat. Two things of beauty to draw yr attention to today.

#1. I feel better about not getting round to writing about the launch of It Came From The Sea now, because I don't think I could have done it as much justice as the boys themselves:

"people are massing on the edge of the dancefloor, are rocking on their heels, are almost ready now. above the stage, a computer-generated philosophy professor is visibly liquefying, is gesticulating in time to the music. when kicking_k lays down ms jade’s ‘dead wrong’, his favourite song in the world as of a day and a half before, the wall breaks, one brave soul bursts onto the floor, smile taking up whole lower half of his face, backpack busting up and down along with him. more people coming in all the time, nodding to timbaland’s staggered, staggering beats. by the time we’re into chicks on speed’s ‘fashion rules’, the crowd is pushing and pulsing, ever accelerating arms, legs and - crucially - haircuts."

Check out the photos too.

#2. Scroll down to the entry for 19th Feb. Although this being Makezine, the entry above it is pretty much invaluable reading as well. With the letter, I'm yet again reminded how powerful the result of the strange personal/public mix that you get on the internet can be, and how evocative. I think it sums up some of my feelings about the march on the 15th as well - scared, sad, hopeful, appreciative of your friends... and cold.

It also reminds me of something else I meant to tell you about - coming next post or next but one.
