Needless to say, I still haven't heard a song by The Avengers...
I want in

Browsing I Love Music today, I came across a photo of an old punk band called The Avengers, of whom I had never heard, and it struck me that the lead singer had some of the same qualities I have in mind for Aimee, lead singer of the band in That Other Thing I Am Writing (or at least, she did back then).

Then I discovered this picture, which pretty much sealed the deal:

In a word, 'woah'.

It's actually pretty spooky given some of the imagery I've worked into a music video sequence already written - okay, so subverted American flags and images of bombs are not a new thing, but still - it feels like a sign. ROCK'N'ROLL (working title only, possible title the eponymous PERVERT MECHANICS, although the band's name may also change) is one of the projects I'm trying to limit myself to writing, and it's also the one which I could specifically see Nelson doing scarily good things with. At the moment the main ideas/pages/sequences that I'm working on are all kinda design-based - because the plot is both currently pretty basic and also one that's lived in my head for literally years - I'm obsessed with the thought that there are things you can do with the comics medium regarding depicting the trappings and ephemera of the music industry that haven't really been done before (to my knowledge) but have the potential to work really well. This may sound incredibly arrogant, or just cocky enough...

I may post bits of script at some point. Maybe.

I'll get the boat, you get the match and gasoline

The West Pier burns. Wow. There's a (comics) story I'm working on right now which features the West Pier as a location - it struck me as the pefect mix of supervillian lair for Goths and ultimate squatting venue - and I guess I should take this fire as a sign that I need to get on with actually writing the thing, while there's still some Pier left...
